Certified Virtual Assistants: How the Job is Changing
It wasn’t long ago that being a virtual assistant meant doing administrative duties for professionals and business owners. Anything that you could do from a computer and with a phone, your certified virtual assistant could do too. Some duties ranged from ordering flowers for you wife, sending email or phone call reminders to get her a gift on her birthday, to having your mail forwarded to our homes and letting us sort out the junk mail. If you were very creative, you could even do filing for the client and ship boxes back and forth when needed. However, the face of what a certified virtual assistant is and does is rapidly changing thanks to the outsourcing to countries like India and the Philippines.
In order to keep the bar raised high, VA’s are having to take on new tasks. This summer, I spent countless hours learning to design web pages, SEO, traffic generation, how to make money online, become certified in shopping cart and LMS strategies, etc. It simply isn’t enough to do administrative work anymore. However, the big web design firms aren’t offing the administrative side either. So what I’ve found is a nice combination that my clients love! They get the personal attention they always did with their own personal VA, they get the knowledge of a huge web design/e – commerce firm, and they still have their administrative tasks handled as well. Now I’ve partnered with a product strategist to take any professional with a simply idea to an online business owner – complete with all the trimmings in under a year.
To all my fellow VA’s out there – I say now is the time to up your skills or you will soon find yourself losing clients to outsourcing and the big web design firms. Learn now and make yourself unique. For my clients – I am The Virtual Difference in their lives and business.
