Marriage is a wonderful thing. It is where man and woman are bonded together through holy matrimony in which is supposed to last forever. A few months later, a baby will be born, a family will start and more or less, you’ll need to plan carefully so that your family finances are stable. That is when the saying “all good times come to an end” starts to kick in. Once the honeymoon ends and we are faced with the harshness and the reality of life, people often regret getting married, especially when drowned by tons and tons of financial problems that seem poised to overwhelm and stress us to death. Remember, that the leading cause for divorce in most countries is “money” and on top of that, money issues often abound due to mishandling and mismanagement of family finances. Given that very concerning fact, here are a few tips to ensure a happy and long marriage, through proper handling of your family finances:

• Relax. The most common way to fight off stress and problems is to relax. The mind is able to think properly when it is relaxed and calmed down. Yes, your problems may seem to be numerous and overwhelming but, they are still manageable. Heck, even if you have a million dollars in debt, you’ll still be able to find a way to work that out, one way or another. And, you’ll only be able to come up of ways to go through your family’s finances if your stress levels are down. Exercise is one way to keep stress levels at a moderate, if not low level. Go for a walk. Get up. Move around. Sit back, relax, and make yourself a cup of tea or coffee. Release yourself first of all your stress before even thinking about venturing out.

• Organization is a key to handling your family finances. For one thing, you’ll be encountering bills, bills and well, more bills. Electricity, water, phone, internet, the list of bills goes on and on. However, numerous they may be, you have the power of the world’s most powerful and fastest computer at your disposal, and it comes free of charge. What is it? It’s your brain. Organize bills by date. Pay the ones who are due first or ones that are necessary. For example, you can live for a month without cable, but not a month without water or electricity. And if you have any that are overdue, make them your priority. If possible, make extra payments to outstand bills or ones that are overdue. Also, remember to handle bills one at a time.

• One way to manage your bills better and properly is to mark them in a calendar. Since you’re probably bringing yourself along with you for most of the time, then make use of its calendar feature. Mark the due dates of your bills, and set a realistic date when you should pay it.

• Lastly, do not forget to reward yourself. A few hundred dollars in your bank account every month should be enough. Remember, little things go a long way when they pile up. If bills can pile up, then why can’t your savings? Right?
